Murasoli Selvam, son-in-law of former chief minister M. Karunanidhi, passes away on Thursday at a hospital in Bengaluru. Selvam, 72-year-old, was admitted to the hospital due to breathlessness earlier on Thursday.

Murasoli Selvam, as he is popularly known, is the younger brother of former Union Minister Murasoli Maran. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's elder sister Selvi is married to Selvam. He is the second son of Karunanidhi's elder sister Shanmuga Sundarathammal.

Selvi, who was living in Bengaluru, moved to Chennai after her mother Dayalu Ammal had fallen sick. The mortal remains of Selvam will be placed at Karunanidhi's Gopalapuram residence for homage, the family has announced. A poet and an author, Selvam, was the publisher and editor of Murasoli, the Drvaida Munnetra Kazhagam's mouthpiece, for over 50 years.

Chief Minister Stalin condoled Selvam's demise. He remembered Selvam as a brother, guide and someone who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with him during his growth phase in the party.
