RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, in his Independence Day address at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur, highlighted the issue of the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and said India has the responsibility to protect the suffering people in the neighbouring nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Independence Day address to the nation at Delhi's Red Fort, said people in India are worried about the safety of people belonging to the minority communities in Bangladesh in the wake of the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. "Indians want the security of Hindus, and minorities there to be ensured," Modi said, adding that India hopes that the situation in the country normalizes soon.

In the wake of the unrest in Bangladesh, there have been reports of widespread attacks against Hindus, and vandalism of Hindu temples, households, and businesses. The incidents of violence against minorities increased after Hasina fled the country leading to massive vandalism and destruction of property.
The Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance claimed that the community faced attacks and threats in 278 locations across 48 districts since Hasina' departure from the country.
Echoing the sentiments expressed by PM Modi, the RSS chief said "India has the tradition of helping others. We have seen in the last few years that India has never attacked anyone, but helped those who were in trouble irrespective of how they behave with us."

"Our country has the responsibility to ensure that the people facing the heat of instability and anarchy do not have to face any trouble, injustice and atrocities. In some cases, the government has to see on its own level, but it gets strength only when society fulfils its duty and shows commitment towards the country," Bhagwat said.
