An Indian Army soldier laid down his life while four terrorists were neutralized in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday. While the soldier made the supreme sacrifice in Modergam village of Kulgam, the terrorists were killed in the Frisal Chinnigam area.
According to the Indian Army, security personnel were conducting a cordon-and-search operation in Modergam village of the south Kashmir district when the terrorists opened fire at them. The martyred soldier suffered bullet injuries in the attack, they said.
The soldiers were rushed to Modergam after the presence of terrorists in the area was confirmed by sources.
Meanwhile, security personnel came face to face with terrorists in the Frisal Chinnigam area of Kulgam, news agency PTI said, confirming that the dead bodies of four extremists have been spotted so far.
As the presence of more gunmen was confirmed, the security personnel couldn't immediately seize them. The operation is still in progress in the area, PTI said. The site of the encounter is not near the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway but in the interior areas of the district, the report added.
The encounter site was visited by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, V K Birdhi. Confirming the operation to spot and take out the remaining terrorists will continue, he said getting to these terrorists is a significant achievement for the forces. The Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces continue to keep track of the movement of terrorists, he added.
