Kerala: Body of a newborn tossed from apartment; mother arrested

It is not clear if the baby was thrown onto the road after being killed

The body of a newborn baby was found abandoned in Panampilly Nagar area in Kerala's Kochi. According to the police, the body was wrapped in a cover and was thrown from an apartment located in Vidyanagar Road in the city.

Police, who examined the CCTV visuals, found that the cover containing the body fell onto the road from a nearby apartment. People who reached the spot after seeing a cover being thrown onto the road found the body of the newborn and informed the police.

The incident reportedly happened around 8 am on Friday.

It is not clear if the baby was thrown onto the road after being killed or died because of the fall. 

The police took a woman and her parents into custody in connection with the crime.

According to Manorama News, a long-term resident in the area, and his wife and daughter were taken into custody after the police narrowed down their search based on the address on the courier cover that was used to wrap the newborn's body.

Bloodstains were found in the washroom of their house.
