Prime Minister Narendra Modi said whatever his government at the Centre did in the last ten years was just a ‘trailer’ and there’s plenty more still to be done if the NDA is elected for a third term.
“What happened in the last 10 years is just a trailer, as there's plenty more still to be done. We all have to come together to take the country forward,” Modi said, addressing an election rally in Bihar’s Jamui.
The prime minister launched a blistering attack on the Congress, accusing the opposition party of bringing disrepute to the country.
“When the Congress was in power, terrorists from small countries struggling for wheat supplies could strike at will. But under the BJP-led NDA government, India has started hitting back,” Modi said. He, however, refrained from mentioning Pakistan by name.
Modi also took potshots at the RJD, saying "those who gobbled up land in the name of giving jobs to the poor in the Railways can never do any good for the people of Bihar."
The prime minister noted that India’s global profile and prestige rose by leaps and bounds under his government and the country became the fifth largest economy.
"On one side is the NDA government, which talks about setting up new industries. On the other, there are these people whose only claim to fame is the kidnapping industry. On one side is the NDA government, which talks about solar power and LED lights. On the other are these arrogant leaders in the Opposition coalition, who want to take Bihar back to the age of the lantern," Modi said.
He further accused the Congress and the RJD of hurting the Bihari pride and insulting the state’s luminaries, including former chief minister Karpoori Thakur.
"Both the Congress and the RJD insulted Bihar and Bihari pride at every opportunity. They insulted Karpoori Thakur. Just some time ago, our government conferred the country's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, on Karpoori Thakur (posthumously). Even then, they scoffed at our decision,” said the prime minister.
In Bihar, BJP will contest in 17 and its ally JD(U) in 16 seats.
