A Delhi Court extended Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K. Kavitha’s remand till March 26 in the scrapped Delhi excise policy scam case on Saturday. The Telangana politician demanded Election Commission’s intervention as politicians are being arrested during the elections.

"It is a fake case, but we are fighting it. Why politicians are being arrested during the elections? The ECI should intervene and protect the democracy in this country," the BRS leader said after the court extended her custody by three days. The Enforcement Directorate arrested the leader on March 15 in connection with the liquor policy scam. The agency on Saturday petitioned for five days of custody and the court granted three days.

The ED has alleged that Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, was a key member of the South Group that has been accused of paying the AAP kickbacks of Rs 100 crore in return for a big share of liquor licences in the national capital.

After producing her in court, the ED said that she was confronted with the statements of four people and a forensic report of the data extracted from her phone. The probe agency also told the court that raids were being conducted at the house of her nephew in Hyderabad. BRS leader's counsel filed a bail plea in court.

On Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed her bail plea and directed her to approach the trial court. Delhi chief minister has also been remanded to six-day custody in the same case.
