At Arambargh rally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke for the first time after the Sandeshkhali incident. He said he feels ashamed to see that leaders of opposition INDIA bloc are "silent" on the Sandeshkhali atrocities.

"TMC government is the big hurdle in the empowerment of poor, farmers, youth and women," said Modi in West Bengal.

Modi also added that he will not let the loot by TMC to continue.

While attacking TMC, Modi said that the people of West Bengal are asking their CM 'Didi'- is the vote of some people more important than atrocities against women in Sandeshkhali?

"All the tall leaders of INDI alliance were silent on the Sandeshkhali incident. INDIA bloc leaders were like the three monkeys of Gandhiji...Congress chief said- 'Arey chhoddo, Bengal mein toh yeh sab chalta rheta hai'...," Modi was quoted by ANI.

PM questioned why the Left and Congress leaders shied away from asking the tough questions to CM Mamata Banerjee.

Modi also added that the entire country is reeling with anger after seeing what TMC has done to the sisters of Sandeshkhali. "The soul of Raja Ram Mohan Roy must have been pained by what happened there...the party is protecting the TMC leader and the arrest was made after BJP leaders exerted pressure on the government," he said.

After the incident came into light, where several women alleged that they were sexually harassed by TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan, protests were staged by BJP demading the arrest of Shahjahan.

After being on the run for around 50 days, Shajahan was arrested by the police on Thursday.

Immediately after the arrest, Shajahan was suspended from the party for six years. He was the party convenor of Sandeshkhali assembly constituency and was also a member of TMC-held North 24 Parganas Zilla Parishad.

According to the police, Shajahan was arrested in two cases lodged at the Nazat police station in connection with an assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers on January 5 during a raid at his house in a ration scam case.

He was booked under IPC sections 147 (guilty of rioting), 148 (guilty of rioting being armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 307 (attempt to murder), 333 (whoever voluntarily causes grievous hurt to any person being a public servant) and 392 (robbery), said police.
