Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference (J&KPC), on Monday, announced party president Sajad Gani Lone as its candidate for the Lok Sabha from north Kashmir.
In a statement, J&KPC general secretary Imran Reza Ansari said the decision was made after extensive discussions with party leaders and workers over the past two weeks.
"I am pleased to formally announce that Sajad Lone has accepted the party's demand. He will be the party's candidate for the Baramulla parliamentary seat," he said.
Ansari highlighted that Lone's candidacy represents a new era of politics in Jammu and Kashmir—one that is focused on empowering the people and addressing their long-standing issues.
"He is a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of the challenges facing our region. His candidacy reflects our commitment to bringing about positive change and ensuring the voices of the people are heard," Ansari said.
Lone expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent the party in the Lok Sabha elections and vowed to work tirelessly for the welfare of the people of north Kashmir.
"I am humbled by the trust placed in me by the party leadership and members. I will strive to be a strong voice for the people of north Kashmir and work towards addressing their concerns," he said.
The announcement comes ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and is seen as a significant development in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
The J&KPC commands support in north Kashmir's Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipora districts and had garnered the third-highest total of votes in the last Lok Sabha polls.
The J&KPC was founded by late Abdul Gani Lone who was assassinated by militants on May 21, 2002, during a rally at Eidgah in remembrance of late Mirwaz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, father of Mirwaz Umar Farooq. The late Mirwaz was killed at his house by militants on May 21, 1990.
