On the day when the consecration of Ram Lalla at the grand temple in Ayodhya was held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held an all-faith rally in Kolkata.
The 'Sanghati March' which began from Hazra More and culminated at Park Circus Maidan was attended by religious leaders from various faiths and key members of the Trinamool Congress.
Later, talking to the media, Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party and said she didn’t believe in politicising religion ahead of elections.
“I don't believe in politicising religion ahead of elections. I am against such practice. I have no objection against those worshipping Lord Ram, but object to interference with the food habits of people," she said in her concluding remarks at the rally,” she said.
Banerjee also labelled the saffron camp as anti-women for omitting Goddess Sita from their discourse about Lord Ram.
"They (BJP) talk about Lord Ram, but what about Goddess Sita? She was all along with Lord Ram during his exile. They don't speak about her as they are anti-women. We are worshippers of Goddess Durga, so they should not try to lecture us about religion," the Trinamool chief asserted.
The rally saw Banerjee visiting diverse places of worship, such as a temple, mosque, church, and gurdwara in Kolkata.
"Smt. @MamataOfficial kickstarted the Sanhati Rally from Hazra Park. As thousands of people join this rally uniting all communities, the message 'Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava' resonates across the city! The secular thread of our nation that binds us all remains stronger than ever!,” the Trinamool Congress wrote on X earlier in the day.
