Even as the Congress failed to impress in the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, National Conference vice president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah painted a grim picture of the future of National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), formed by the opposition parties, including the Congress, to take on the BJP unitedly in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

"I cannot say anything. The situation of the INDIA alliance in the state elections, if the same continues in the future, then we will not be able to save ourselves,” Abdullah said when asked about the future of INDIA bloc.

He claimed that the Congress could not understand the ground situation in Madhya Pradesh. "What would have they lost if they had given five to seven seats to Akhilesh Yadav. They have lost anyway. It is possible that if Akhilesh Yadav was given a few seats, we could save ourselves a little in MP."

He said he was not expecting the BJP to perform so well. "We have to congratulate the BJP now because we were not expecting this. We were hearing that the Congress would easily win Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. They said that in Rajasthan too they will lead at the end. But after the results, all the claims proved to be baseless. In Madhya Pradesh, it has been 20 years (of BJP). It is the fifth term now. This is not ordinary."

In what appeared to be a dig at the Congress leadership, he said, "Congress leadership has called for an INDIA Alliance meeting on December 6. It is good that they remembered about it again after three months."
