Heavy rain hits airport operations in Delhi; several flights diverted

At least 16 flights were diverted from Delhi to various destinations after heavy rains and lightening impacted operations of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital.

According to reports, 10 flights were diverted to Jaipur, three to Lucknow, two to Amritsar and one to Ahmedabad.

The Vistara Flight UK778 from Kolkata to Delhi has been diverted to Lucknow and another flight UK742 from Guwahati to Delhi has been diverted to Jaipur, reported ANI.

IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Delhi 6E2327 was delayed by more than 50 minutes and was later diverted, the report said.

All the major airlines have issued travel advisory, saying flight operations to and from Delhi have been impacted due to heavy rain, and urging passengers to keep a tab on their flight status on the airlines’ websites.

The Meteorological Department had earlier predicted a cloudy weather in the national capital, resulting in a dip in temperature. The weather department also predicted light-intensity rain for the coming 2-3 days in Delhi.

According to the IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi on Monday was recorded at 13.4 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 23 degrees.
