A Delhi court, on Tuesday, extended the custody of Aam Admi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh till October 13. The leader had been detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in relation to his alleged involvement in the Delhi excise policy-related money laundering case and was produced in the Rouse Avenue Court after five days of ED custody. Singh was in ED custody for five more days after being arrested on October 4 after the agency alleged non-cooperation by Singh.

Special Judge M K Nagpal passed the order on an application moved by the central probe agency. The ED sought the extension of Sanjay Singh's custodial interrogation by five days, accusing him of non-cooperation.

The agency in its charge sheet mentions that Singh played a key role in the formulation and implementation of the now scrapped excise policy. The charge sheet also mentioned that beneficiaries of the policy were liquor manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers. The ED also detained former Delhi chief minister Manish Sisodia in relation to the case.

The ED, in its charge sheet, also claims that both Singh and Sisodia are close to restaurateur Dinesh Arora, whom they arrested in July, after claiming that he played a key role in the case.

“Honest people are with us, dishonest with PM Modi,” Singh said while being produced before a court in the excise scam case. Delhi court directed Singh not to give any interviews to the media while being produced and asked the press not to ask him questions. “I will not plead guilty to your fanciful allegations,” Singh's counsel told ED, PTI reported.

Reportedly, the ED has said that Arora received a call from an AAP MP saying that Delhi assembly elections were nearing and the party needed funds. AAP has denied the allegations and condemned the arrest of its senior leader.
