The reconstituted Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting begins in Hyderabad on Saturday. Top party leaders including former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, MP Rahul Gandhi and president Mallikarjun Kharge arrived in Telangana to attend the meet. The meeting will be chaired by Kharge.
Ahead of the meeting, party’s media and publicity department head Pawan Khera told reporters that the “internal democracy” is what makes Congress different from other parties. “No other party in this country has had this kind of an open election,” he said.
There will be an open discussion and everybody will be free to voice his or her opinion, suggestion or criticism, said Khera.
“That is the way our party functions, that is the way the blood in the veins of our party stays fresh and boiling,” he said.
With the elections coming up in five states, including Telangana, CWC meeting is crucial as discussions on election strategies and INDIA alliance seat-sharing are likely to take place. "In consonance with our long cherished philosophy, the CWC will craft a comprehensive road map to lead the party towards victory," said Kharge ahead of the meet.
"A lot of you had a complaint that the Congress is not on the roads, I hope that the complaint has been addressed. Rahul Gandhi undertook the over 4,000-km-long Bharat Jodo Yatra which has proved to be a turning point in the way we do our politics," said Khera.
On the recent media policy adopted by the INDIA bloc—boycotting several TV news anchors—Khera said that they have not banned, boycotted or blacklisted anyone.
“This is a non-cooperation movement, we will not cooperate with anyone spreading hatred in the society...They are not our enemies. Nothing is permanent, if tomorrow they realise that what they were doing is not good for India, we will again start attending their shows,” said Khera.
On being asked about the ‘Corrupt Working Committee’ posters seen in Hyderabad ahead of the CWC meeting, Khera said that there has been an agreement in K. Kavitha’s family that corruption within Hyderabad will be done by her brother and corruption within Telangana by her father.
“The responsibility of corruption outside Telangana is given to K. Kavitha...According to this arrangement she is worried that if she loses the election from Telangana, the father and the brother will think of doing corruption outside Telangana,” Khera told ANI.
