Questions were raised by Congress after Bank of Baroda (BoB) withdrew the e-auction notice for the Juhu bungalow of actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sunny Deol.

In a newspaper advertisement, the bank said that "the sale notice in respect of Mr Ajay Singh Deol alias Mr Sunny Deol stands withdrawn due to technical reasons."

While taking it to X, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said “Yesterday afternoon the nation got to know that Bank of Baroda had put up the Juhu residence of BJP MP Sunny Deol for e-auction since he has not paid up ₹56 crore owed to the Bank. This morning, in less than 24 hours, the nation has got to know that the Bank of Baroda has withdrawn the auction notice due to ‘technical reasons’. Wonder who triggered these ‘technical reasons’?”

The Gurdaspur MP’s property was put up for auction after the actor failed to repay a loan of Rs 56 crore due from December last year. The e-auction was scheduled to be held on August 25.

As per the public notice issued by the bank, the bids have been invited for the 599.44-square-metre property, the reserve price of which has been fixed at Rs 51.43 crore. “Interested buyers will have to deposit earnest money of ₹5.14 crore, and bids can be increased by an amount of ₹10 lakh during the auction,” the notice said.

It also added that the property, Sunny Villa on Juhu's Gandhigram Road, can be inspected by the prospective buyers on September 14.

The recovery proceedings was launched by the bank under the SARFAESI Act, 2002. Bobby Deol and his father Dharmendra Deol were guarantors for the loan, while Sunny Sounds Pvt Ltd was the corporate guarantor for the mortgage, said the notice.

Sunny Villa bungalow houses the Sunny Super Sounding recording studio, Sunny Deol’s office, two production suites and a preview theatre.
