Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah, who is contesting from the Varuna constituency, will file his nomination papers on Wednesday.

Siddaramaiah, who has expressed his aspirations to become the next chief minister, will take out a roadshow along with party workers on Wednesday afternoon before filing the papers. He will also visit a temple at Chamundi Hill before addressing the public at Golur Circle in his constituency.

Former chief minister Jagdish Shettar, who recently switched sides to Congress from the BJP, will also file his papers. Shettar will contest from the Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency, a seat from which he has won six times. Shettar quit BJP after he was denied a ticket from his stronghold. He will face BJP state general secretary Mahesh Tenginakai at Hubballi-Dharwad Central.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will also file nomination papers for the second time on Wednesday. Bommai, who will contest from Shiggaon, filed his papers four days ago but decided to do it again on Wednesday in the presence of BJP chief J P Nadda. He will be accompanied by actor Kiccha Sudeep.

"This time there is huge support and I am confident of winning with the largest majority this time…Nothing has shaken. Not even a small brick has changed. We are going to win all the three Hubli-Dharwad seats, including Jagadish Shettar’s seat," Bommai told ANI.

Savadi files papers

Many leaders, including Karnataka Minister R Ashoka, who is taking on state Congress president D K Shivakumar in Kanakapura, and former deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi too filed nomination papers on Tuesday.

Ashoka, who is also contesting from Padmanabhanagar constituency here, which he currently represents, filed his nomination from there on Monday while Laxman Savadi, who recently quit BJP and joined Congress after being denied a ticket from Athani, filed his papers from the segment after visiting a temple and holding a mega roadshow.

Other leaders who filed their papers on Tuesday include former minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, who played an instrumental role in the defection of 17 Congress and JD(S) MLAs in 2019 that led to the fall of the coalition government and paved the way for BJP to come to power.
