In continuation with ongoing raids to arrest on the run 'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh, Jammu police detained a couple for their alleged links with one of his aides from the Ranbir Singh Pura area of Jammu on Saturday.

According to the reports, the couple, Amrik Singh and his wife Paramjit Kout, a resident of RS Pura, 35 km from Jammu, were handed over to Punjab police. Singh and his wife were detained for alleged links with Papalpreet Singh, a close aide of Amritpal.

The mobile phones of the couple were seized by the police for investigations. The Punjab police are investigating the matter and they will be questioning the couple about Amritpal.

Meanwhile, the district magistrates of Kishtwar and Ramban districts in Jammu have cancelled arms licences of Talwinder Singh and Virender Singh Amritpal Singh, the two bodyguards accompanying Amritpal.

Amritpal, a pro-Khalistan leader, has burst on the scene in Punjab and has been openly advocating Khalistan for Sikhs. His campaign against the drug menace that has plagued the youth of Punjab has won him many admirers.

In his many interviews, he has made no bones of his separatist agenda. Several of his supporters and kin have been arrested after police started acting against him last week. He has been on the run to avoid arrest but efforts are on to trace him.
