The DMK government led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will soon roll out the much-awaited Rs 1,000 monthly dole for women heads of eligible households. The scheme called as 'Magalir Urimai Thogai' or rightful money will be launched on the birthday of Dravidian stalwart and former chief minister C.N. Annadurai on September 15.

Allocating Rs 7,000 crore for the scheme, finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan in his budget speech said "it will be a game changer in the socio-economic life of women of the state." The operational guidelines outlining the eligibility to avail the benefits under the scheme will be evolved and released soon, PTR said in his budget speech.

Stating that September month has a "special significance" for the Dravidian movement, he noted that the scheme is being launched during M. Karunanidhi birth centenary year. This much expected scheme is one of the pet projects of Stalin and this is the second major welfare scheme in line for women since the DMK was voted to power in Tamil Nadu. The first was the launch of free bus rides for women.

In his speech, Thiaga Rajan also added that the Dravidian model government led by Stalin has planned and taken many initiatives to promote equality of women, who form half of the population in Tamil Nadu.
