Shocking details of the murder of a 23-year-old Delhi woman came to light on Wednesday, triggering eerie comparisons to the Shraddha Walker murder case. According to the police, Nikki Yadav was allegedly strangled to death by her live-in partner Sahil Gahlot, 24.
He strangled her with a data cable after a heated argument and disposed of her body in a fridge at the dhaba owned by his family in southwest Delhi. Gahlot, a pharma student, was arrested by Delhi Police Crime Branch on Tuesday. He was presented before Court in Delhi and sent to five-day police custody.
According to sources, Gahlot married another woman soon after the murder on February 10. Police said the accused had hidden the fact from his girlfriend Nikki that his marriage was fixed with another woman.
Delhi police sources told News18 that after killing Nikki in his car near Kashmere Gate, the accused let the body stay in the front seat itself. He drove for approximately 40 kilometres, and reached his dhaba in Mitraon village.
“Action by Crime Branch is commendable. Our timing was perfect, we detected it on time. Had he disposed of the body, DNA match, collection of evidence, and linking it to the accused would've taken time, Spl CP (Crime)Ravindra Yadav told ANI.
The police traced him on Tuesday after a local filed a missing complaint about Nikki. Her family was clueless about her whereabouts all this while, NDTV reported. Her father, Sunil Yadav, demanded the death penalty for the accused. Nikki's family lives in Jhajjar in Haryana.
The brutal murder has once brought attention to Aftab Poonawala, who allegedly murdered his live-in partner Shraddha, chopped her body into parts and stored them in a 300-litre refrigerator before disposing of them in a forest area in Delhi's Mehrauli.
