Mumbai police has arrested an Italian woman passenger for allegedly behaving in an unruly manner and causing ruckus mid-air on a Vistara Airline flight soon after taking off from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai on Monday. The woman reportedly assaulted the crew members and abused the co-passengers.

The passenger identified as Paola Perruccio was arrested by Sahar police after the flight landed in Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. She was later released on bail by a court here.

The woman was reportedly drunk and behaved in an unruly manner. She insisted on being seated in the business class despite booked in economy. She reportedly took off her clothes and walked up and down the aisle half naked abusing other passengers.

"We confirm that there was an unruly passenger on Vistara flight UK 256 operating from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai on January 30, 2023. In view of the continued unruly conduct and violent behaviour, the captain issued a warning card and made a decision to restrain the passenger," Vistara spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also added that pilot had made regular announcements to assure the other customers onboard of their safety and security. “In accordance with the guidelines and our stringent standard operating procedures, the security agencies on-ground were informed about taking immediate action upon arrival. The incident has been reported to the relevant authorities as per the SOPs," the spokesperson said.

Mumbai police had filed a chargesheet against the passenger. All necessary statement recordings of co-passengers and crew members were also conducted.

In a similar incident last year, Vistara had handed over an uruly passenger to London's Heathrow airport authorities after he manhandled and abused crew members during the flight.
