Delhi police issues traffic advisory ahead of Republic Day dress rehearsals

Ahead of the Republic Day parade full dress rehearsal on Monday, Delhi Traffic Police issued traffic advisory. In order to facilitate smooth conduct of the parade, an elaborated traffic arrangements is in place.

The country is geared up for celebrating 76th Republic Day on Thursday. A total of 23 tableaux, including 17 from states and Union Territories, and six from ministries and departments will roll down the Kartavya Path during the Republic Day parade on January 26.

The Delhi police in the issued advisory said that the full dress rehearsal parade will start from Vijay Chowk at 10.30 am and will later move towards the Red Fort.

The march would move from Vijay Chowk to Kartavyapath to 'C' Hexagon to the Statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose to Tilak Marg to Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg to Netaji Subhash Marg for reaching the Red Fort, read the guideline issued by the police.

The movement of traffic on Kartavyapath from Vijay Chowk to Indian Gate is barred from 6 pm on Sunday (January 22) till the end of the parade on Monday and no cross traffic is allowed on Kartavyapath at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road from Sunday 11 pm till the parade is over.

"C-Hexagon-India Gate will be closed for traffic from 9.15 am today (January 23) till it crosses Tilak marg," stated the guideline. Also vehicles will not be allowed in either direction on the Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg, and Subhash Marg, it added.

"Road users are requested to plan their journey in advance accordingly and avoid the route of parade from 0930 hours to 1300 hours, for their own convenience. Commuters are advised to make maximum use of the Metro service while planning their journey in and around New Delhi," it read.

The Delhi metro services will be fully functional at all stations. However, boarding and deboarding at Kendriya Sachivalaya and Udyog Bhawan stations will not be allowed from 5 am till 12 pm.

The Ministry of Defence is going to organise the Military Tattoo and Tribal Dance festival as part of the Republic Day celebrations at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday and Tuesday.

"About 50,000 people are expected to witness the programme. Keeping in view the fact that a large number of spectators, including various civil and military VVIPs/VIPs and dignitaries, apart from full capacity public audience will be arriving at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to watch the programme," said the advisory.

The corridors which are going to be affected due to the restriction on the days of programme are Bhisham Pitama Marg from Lodhi Road to Andrews Gang flyover, Lodhi Road, Max Muller Marg, Mahrishi Raman Marg, Ach Bishop Marg, Subramanian Bharti Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, it said.

The advisory advised the people to resort to public transport for their journeys.
