Bhopal to host special G20 event on 'Global governance with life values and well-being'

A special two-day 'Think 20' event would be held in Madhya Pradesh's capital Bhopal under the G20 convention from January 16. The theme of the event is 'Global governance With life values and well-being: Fostering cooperation in framework, finance and technology.'

G20 representatives and subject experts will participate in the meeting to be inaugurated by state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while governor Mangubhai Patel will attend the closing ceremony on January 17.

The keynote address at the inaugural session will be delivered by Tetsushi Sonobe, Dean and CEO, ADBI, Tokyo (Japan). Special remarks would be made by George Laryea-Adjei, Director for South Asia, UNICEF, Nepal, Slamet Soedarsono, Deputy Minister of Political Affairs, Law, Security and National Development Planning, Indonesia, Harshvardhan Shringla, chief coordinator of G20, Government of India, and Suman Berry, Vice Chairperson, NITI Aayog, Government of India.

The context setting will be by Director General, Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) Sachin Chaturvedi and T20 Chair and Director General MPIDSA, Ambassador Sujan Chinoy.

In the course of two days, five plenary and 10 parallel sessions will be held. The first plenary session will be on the topic 'Life, value and development transformation', while the second one would be on 'Financing resilient infrastructure and sustainable transition towards life.' The third plenary session will be on ‘Towards inclusive G20.’

There will be five parallel sessions on the topics 'Institutional framework for live', 'Investing in children as investment in future', 'Financing resilient cities and societies', 'Economic systems transformation' and 'One health wellness and traditional medicine.'

Another five parallel sessions will be conducted on the topics, 'Ethics in technology', 'Women and youth-led development', 'Green energy and logistics', 'Industrial transformation' and 'Going beyond GDP-well-being measurement.'

Ministers and subject experts from India and abroad who have come to Bhopal to participate in the G20’s 'Think 20' discussion will visit the local Tribal Museum in Bhopal at the end of the first day, where cultural programmes will also be held.

Governor to attend the valedictory session

On the second day, there will be two plenary sessions, a round table meeting and valedictory address by Governor Mangubhai Patel.

The plenary session on this day will be on the topic 'Role of triangular cooperation in localization of SDGs.' This will be followed by a round table meeting on 'Global South and global governance for LiFE.' The last plenary session is on the topic 'New complementarities in trade and value chains.'

In the valedictory session, Marten van den Berg, Ambassador of the Netherlands to India, Philipp Ackermann, German Ambassador to India, Debapriya Bhattacharya of Bangladesh and Sandeep Chakraborty, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, will take part.

After the meeting concludes, the delegation would visit the world heritage site Sanchi.
