Ram temple in Ayodhya will be opened on January 1, 2024, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in Tripura on Thursday.

Addressing a public rally, the home minister alleged that the Congress has been obstructing the construction of Ram temple, in courts, but after the Supreme Court verdict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the process of construction of the temple.

He asked the crowd should the Ram temple be constructed in Ayodhya. He claimed that ever since the temple was destroyed by Mughal Emperor Babur, people have been wanting to restore it. However, ever since the Independence, the Congress has been trying to prevent the construction, he alleged.

"I was the BJP president in 2019, and Rahul Gandhi was the president of the Congress. Rahul Gandhi used to say the BJP was unable to give a specific date when the temple will be constructed. Listen to me, January 1, 2024, Ram temple will be constructed in Ayodhya," he said.

The announcement is significant for the BJP as the general elections are scheduled to be held in 2024.
