Ghulam Nabi Azad, who quit the Congress a few months ago and floated his own political outfit, is likely to come back to the grand old party.

News agency ANI quoted sources as saying that Azad, during the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, claimed that only the Congress can taken on the BJP.

Azad also reportedly said he is not against the policy of the party, but was unhappy with its system.

"Anything can happen in politics. But we will be really surprised if Azad saab returns to Congress," Hindustan Times quoted a Congress leader as saying.

Bharat Jodo Yatra convenor Digvijaya Singh is reported to have invited Azad to join Rahul Gandhi-led yatra.

According to media reports, there have been efforts from the senior leadership of the party to bring Azad back to the Congress fold. Ambika Soni is believed to have reached out to Azad and requested him to participate in the yatra and talk to Rahul Gandhi.

However, Azad is yet to respond to the party's overtures.
