The Telangana government has announced a three-day holiday for all educational institutions from Monday in view of heavy rains in the state. The decision was taken after a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekkhar Rao to review the measures taken so far to prevent any untoward incidents.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and cabinet ministers attended the meeting. Kumar had earlier held a video-conferencing with district collectors to take stock of the situation.

“The Chief Secretary said the Collectors should be on high alert and take steps to prevent loss of life, cattle or damage to any property,” said an official release.

Heavy rains were reported in the districts of Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Siricilla, Bhupalpally and Mulugu.

The chief secretary has directed officials to be on high alert and ensure that sandbags are kept ready as several tanks, ponds and reservoirs are in spate.

The Met centre in its daily weather report said that extremely heavy rain occurred in isolated places in Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalle and heavy to very heavy rain occurred in Adilabad, Jagityal, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Nirmal and Nizamabad districts.

Heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagityal, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally districts till 8.20 AM on Monday, the report said.
