With the political crisis in Maharashtra government intensifying, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut hinted at the dissolution of Maharashtra legislative assembly. He had tweeted: "The ongoing political crisis in Maharashtra is heading to the dissolution of Vidhan Sabha."

Shiv Sena's dissident leader Eknath Shinde on Wednesday had asserted that 40 MLAs from Maharashtra have accompanied him to Assam's Guwahati and they are committed to Balasaheb Thackeray's 'Hindutva' ideology. This would be more than enough to topple the Maharashtra government, and split Sena without attracting the ramifications of the anti-defection law. The Shiv Sena, which heads the MVA, has 55 MLAs, followed by allies NCP (53) and the Congress (44) in the 288-assembly where the current simple majority mark is 144.

Shinde, along with a group of Shiv Sena and independent legislators, had arrived in Guwahati early this morning. They had reached a hotel in Surat late Monday night, hours after legislative council polls which saw the BJP winning a fifth seat despite not having enough numbers in the assembly, possibly due to suspected cross-voting from the ruling bloc, besides support from independent MLAs and those from smaller parties. "We are committed to Balasaheb Thackeray's ideology of 'Hindutva' and we want to take it forward," Shinde said. Asked why they shifted to Guwahati, he said, "It is a nice place".

Assam is currently ruled by a BJP-led government.

The rebel MLAs from Maharashtra were received at Guwahati's Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi international airport by BJP MP from Assam Pallab Lochan Das and legislator Sushanta Borgohain.
