Modi to meet Macron today, with Ukraine on the agenda

More cooperation in defence manufacturing will also come up in the talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet French President Emmanuel Macron, who was recently reelected in a tight presidential bid. Modi is expected to discuss the contours of the Ukraine conflict, more cooperation in defence manufacturing, and a way of piece going forward.

PM Modi is currently on a visit to Denmark. He will have a brief stopover in Paris on his return journey. In Denmark, where reached from Germany on the second leg of his three-nation Europe trip, he was welcomed by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The two leaders held talks in a one-on-one format, followed by delegation-level talks. 

After the meeting, Modi had appealed for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the crisis. Speaking to reporters after bilateral talks, Modi said he discussed the Ukraine crisis and appealed for an "immediate ceasefire" in Ukraine. "We appealed for immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and return to dialogue and diplomacy for resolving the crisis," Modi said.

Frederiksen hoped that India will influence Russia on Ukraine and asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to "stop this war and end the killings". "My message is very clear that Putin has got to stop this war and to end the killings. I, of course, hope that India will influence Russia also in this discussion," she said.
