Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at the Centre over India's ranking in the World Happiness report and said the country may soon top the hate and anger charts. India has ranked at 136, even below Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, in the UN-sponsored happiness index.

"Hunger Rank: 10, Freedom Rank: 119, Happiness Rank: 136. But, we may soon top the Hate and Anger charts!,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.

The report published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network ranks 150 countries on several factors such as sense of well-being, GDP per capita, social support system, life expectancy, generosity, liberty to make life choices and perceptions of corruptions etc.

Finland topped the list while Afghanistan ranked as the unhappiest country in the world.

Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Israel and New Zealand were the other countries listed in the top 10.

Lebanon ranked as the second saddest country, followed by Botswana, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

India’s position, however, has improved by three notches from last year’s 139th rank. The US ranked 16th and the UK 17th.

Among India's neighbouring countries, Nepal ranked 84, Bengladesh 94 and Sri Lanka 127.
