Actor Sonu Sood landed in a spot on Sunday as polling continued in the Punjab assembly elections. The Election Commission confiscated his car and stopped him from visiting various polling stations in Moga district. Sonu Sood's sister, Malvika Sood, is contesting from Moga as a Congress candidate.

The Tribune reported a supporter of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Barjinder Singh complained to the Election Commission that Sonu Sood was visiting polling stations and influencing voters.

Moga district magistrate Harish Nayyar was quoted by The Tribune as saying, “Sonu Sood was going from one polling booth to another, which some political parties found objectionable.”

Davinder Singh, the station house officer (SHO) of city police station, told Hindustan Times, “The SUV has been impounded on the basis of suspicious activity. We have received a complaint that the SUV was taking rounds near the polling booth at Landheke village. We have impounded it. Further action is under way.”

SDM-cum-returning officer Satwant Singh told Hindustan Times "I have directed Sonu Sood to remain in his house because is not allowed to move in the area as he doesn’t have vote in Moga constituency. However, he violated the direction. Therefore, I have directed video surveillance of his house.”

However, Sood defended himself. He claimed he had not sought votes for a candidate or party and was only visiting Congress booths, set up outside polling stations.

Sood tweeted “Other Candidates in #Moga Constituency are buying votes” and demanded the Election Commission take immediate action.

Sonu Sood was quoted by ANI as saying “We got to know of threat calls at various booths by opposition, especially the people of Akali Dal. Money being distributed at some booths. So it's our duty to go check and ensure fair elections. That's why we had gone out. Now, we're at home. There should be fair polls.”
