Five militants, including a top Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) commander, were killed in two overnight separate encounters in Pulwama and Budgam districts.

Four JeM militants were killed, including top commander Zahid Wani at Naira in Pulwama. Wani was a resident of Kareemabad in Pulwama.

One foreign militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed at Char-e-Sharief in Budgam.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said the five militants were killed within 12 hours, in two encounters.

He called the killing of Wani and the foreigner a big success for security forces.

"Five militants of Pakistan-sponsored, proscribed militant outfits LeT and JeM were killed in dual encounters in the last 22 hours. Big success for us," IGP Kashmir Police Zone tweeted.
