In a bizarre twist to the Sheena Bora murder case, Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused and mother of the victim, has claimed that her daughter is still alive and that she is living in Kashmir.

In a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation, Indrani says one of her fellow inmates in Byculla jail told her that she had met Sheena in Srinagar where she was on a vacation, on November 25.

Indrani, a former media executive, calls the woman prisoner as a “female government official” and urges the CBI to probe her claims. According to reports, she sent the letter to the agency on November 27.

Indrani's lawyer Sana Raees Khan has confirmed that the letter was sent by her client from jail. Khan said that she will be moving a formal application for bail before the trial court on December 28.

Sheena (24) was allegedly strangled to death in a car by Indrani with the help of her second husband Sanjeev Khanna and her then driver Shyamvar Rai in April 2012.

Her body was allegedly burnt and dumped in a forest in neighbouring Raigad district.

Indrani was arrested in 2015 and has been lodged in the Byculla prison in Mumbai since then. Her former husband Peter Mukerjea was also arrested for allegedly being a part of the murder conspiracy. He is currently out on bail.

Indrani and Peter Mukerjea had got married in 2002 and were granted divorce by a family court in Mumbai in October 2019.

According to the investigators, Indrani committed the crime since she was enraged with Sheena over her relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea's son from an earlier marriage. The CBI claims that Sheena had also threatened to expose her mother after a financial dispute between them.
