In less than 24 hours of a 10-month child being abandoned at a cowshed in Gandhinagar, Gujarat police managed to identify the child and its father, who allegedly dumped him.

Sachin Dixit, the father, had allegedly abandoned the toddler around 9pm on Friday. The cowshed staff heard the cries of the baby and later informed the Pethapur police station.

Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi said that as per preliminary reports, it has emerged that the child does not belong to Dixit’s wife.

Several teams were formed and CCTV cameras of the areas in and around the cowshed were checked. Based on the movements, the police pinned suspicion on a person in a Santro car. His name and address were traced.

According to the police, Dixit has a bungalow in Gandhinagar’s sector 26 and works as a sales manager in a Vadodara-based company. On Friday, Dixit had driven down from Vadodara to Gandhinagar.

He is believed to have fled to Rajasthan. Sources said that a team has been sent to find Dixit and bring him back.

The police also conducted a house-to-house search to get details of the child. Sources said one of the neighbours identified the child.

On Saturday morning, the child was taken to Civil Hospital for a medical check-up.

The search operation was supervised by Range IG Abhay Chudasama and SP Mayur Chavda.
