In the wake of a steady decline in new COVID-19 cases, the Telangana government on Wednesday decided to lift the lockdown in the state completely from Sunday. The state cabinet has ordered officials of all branches to lift all types of regulations imposed during the lockdown in full extent, the chief minister’s office said on Saturday.
“The state cabinet has decided to lift the lockdown completely. The decision has been taken by examining the reports given by medical authorities that the number of coronavirus cases and positivity percentage have decreased significantly and that the situation has come into full control,” the CMO said in a Facebook post.
It said the cabinet had also observed that the corona situation was coming under control in the neighbouring states as well as across the country. The situation in Telangana has come into control faster than in other states, it observed.
“The cabinet has asked for public cooperation in the decision which was taken with the main intention of not damaging the life of common people,” the CMO said.
The education department has been directed to reopen all categories of educational institutions from July 1 with students allowed to attend classes physically.
The government, however, clarified that the COVID-19 regulations like wearing of masks, social distancing and use of sanizer should continue to be followed strictly.
On June 8, the cabinet had decided to extend the lockdown for 10 days (up to Saturday). The state government had first imposed the shutdown from May 12 during the second wave of the COVID-19 spread and extended it subsequently.
The state on Friday reported a little over 1400 cases and 12 deaths while the case positivity rate stood at 1.14 per cent.
