Karnataka: HC allows probe against CM Yediyurappa in audiotape controversy

The case pertains to alleged attempt by the BJP leader to woo a JD(S) leader

Karnataka High Court granted permission for probe against Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, in a case related to allegedly trying to lure Sharanagouda Patil, son of Gurmitkal JD(S) MLA Naganagouda Patil, to resign from the post.

An audiotape of the alleged conversation between the two was released by former Karnataka chief minister Kumaraswamy, who had also accused Yediyurappa of trying to woo Sharanagouda with the promise of money and power.

The move comes as a setback for the Karnataka chief minister as an interim order in February 2019 had stayed the probe into the case.

The order order to vacate the stay was passed by Justice John Michael Cunha.

A probe was initiated after Sharanagouda, who had recorded his conversation with Yediyurappa, who was then the state chief of the saffron party, filed a complaint.

Yeddyurappa had then claimed that Sharanagouda had recorded the conversation, but edited it according to the convenience, leaving out a major portion, while admitting that he had met the latter. He accused Kumaraswamy of being party to the conspiracy.
