Madhya Pradesh and its capital Bhopal's position as preferred destination for movie shootings is slated to get a boost with eminent producer-director Rajkumar Santoshi expressing his wish to set up a film city in the state and a film academy in Bhopal.

Santoshi spoke about his wish while speaking to media persons after meeting the state Home Minister Narottam Mishra in Bhopal on Tuesday. Santoshi announced that he will be shooting three movies back-to-back in Bhopal next year and with support of Mishra getting the required permission and other processes for the shooting have become easy.

“I basically came here to express gratitude to the home minister for facilitating our work. We will be shooting three movies back-to-back next year and I will also set up an office in Bhopal,” Santoshi said.

In reply to a question, he said he has plans to set up a film city and also wants to open a film academy here. This assertion was backed up by Mishra, who said the state government will be supporting such plans so that employment was generated for local people and the local artistes had the chance to hone their talent and get to work with an eminent filmmaker like Santoshi.

Bhopal and other parts of Madhya Pradesh have been sought after as shooting destination by Bollywood since several years now with many movies, and in recent times web shows, being shot here. The state, with its varied destinations, including forests, natural settings, water bodies, heritage structures and beautiful towns and cities, offers a good choice to filmmakers. It is also considered to be a less expensive destination where local artists and back up staff are easily available.
