Stones were pelted at a convoy carrying BJP chief J.P. Nadda in the Diamond Harbour area on Thursday, hours after a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah alleged security lapses by the state government during Nadda's visit.

West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh had expressed concern in his letter to Shah that "goons" of the ruling Trinamool Congress could attempt to stage protests during events involving Nadda on Thursday.

News agency ANI reported "Protesters attempted to block a road in Diamond Harbour from where BJP president J.P. Nadda's convoy was passing; protesters also pelted stones at his convoy." Nadda was going to South 24 Parganas district to address a meeting of BJP workers.

BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya tweeted a video that purportedly showed damage to his vehicle, including shattered windscreen. Vijayvargiya tweeted "The Bengal Police had already received itinerary of J.P. Nadda, but again Bengal Police have failed. Near Sircol Bus Stand, TMC goons assaulted our workers in the presence of police and pelted stones at my vehicle".

Footage from Vijayvargiya's vehicle showed a stone inside. ANI reported a brick was hurled at the vehicle carrying BJP leader Deepanjan Guha at Diamond Harbour.
