Even as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in Gujarat, the administration has refuted rumours about possibility of another lockdown in the state.

Gujarat is witnessing a spurt in COVID-19 positive cases and in the last 24 hours that ended at 5 pm on Tuesday, 1125 new cases were reported, taking the total number of cases in the state to 1,90,361. With seven more patients succumbing to the virus, the death toll in Gujarat now stands at 3815.

Ahmedabad municipal limits reported highest number of cases at 218, followed by Surat municipal limits which reported 158 cases.

In a bid to control the pandemic, the authorities are stepping up testing and augmenting the capacity of beds in hospitals.

Rajiv Gupta, additional chief secretary and in-charge of Ahmedabad for COVID-19, asked the public to stay away from rumours and not to pay heed to any messages circulating on the social media.

One of the messages that have been doing the rounds on the social media mentions about how the cases have been increasing in the western part of Ahmedabad. It also claims that Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel has given indication of a  lockdown.

Gupta said that adequate number of beds are available in different hospitals, including private. He also mentioned that currently 500 people from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and other neighbouring states of Gujarat are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Ahmedabad.
