Newly appointed Gujarat BJP president C.R. Patil's tour of Saurashtra and North Gujarat, and throwing open the doors of party’s headquarter Kamalam in Gandhinagar for party workers in coronavirus times, appear to have taken a toll on the health of BJP leaders with many testing positive for the virus. While Patil himself is admitted at a private hospital in Surat, state BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya has been admitted with breathing difficulty to Ahmedabad’s U.N. Mehta Hospital.

His rapid antigen test is negative, but his RT-PCR report is awaited. Soon after Patil was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, his son Jignesh took to social media to say that his father has tested positive. However, he deleted his tweet after Patil tweeted that his rapid antigen test was negative.

Pandya was one of the key party leaders to have accompanied Patil during his tour to North Gujarat. Patil had taken out rallies and addressed meetings. His team had also announced party workers who get photographed with him will get a framed photo. This had seen party workers scrambling at the first opportunity.

BJP’s state party headquarter has still not been declared a micro containment zone. Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, Gujarat witnessed 1,295 new COVID cases. The period also recorded 13 deaths, taking the death toll to 3,136.
