Chandigarh: COVID-19 positive paramedic threw party amid lockdown, 130 guests quarantined

The paramedic is currently asymptomatic and will face criminal proceedings

Panic has gripped Chandigarh after a corona-warrior transformed into a 'covidiot' by throwing a party. One of the paramedics of a local hospital who had tested positive for COVID-19 had hosted a terrace party a few days ago amidst the curfew, leaving around 130 people quarantined as authorities fear community transmission.

Taking a stern stance of the fact the local administration has initiated criminal proceedings against him.

“Criminal proceedings will be initiated against the accused who had a celebratory party few days back violating social distancing and curfew orders. He had hosted his anniversary celebrations and invited large number of neighbours from the colony putting everybody to risk. God knows how many he infected”, said IAS officer Manoj Parida, UT Advisor.

The accused is a paramedic of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) of sector 32 Chandigarh. He is a resident of Bapudham Colony, Sector 26 and works as an operation theatre attendant at GMCH Sector 32. He is currently asymptomatic. 

Chandigarh so far has reported 28 positive cases with 15 cured and 13 active cases.

The Union Territory is under curfew and a declared containment zone. The administration has announced that it shall not open any shops as per the MHA directive in both Chandigarh and neighboring Mohali that too is Corona hotbed in Punjab.
