In a bid to ensure that home quarantine orders are strictly followed and COVID-19 does not spread, the Gujarat government has taken the aid of technology to track people who are asked to be in self isolation at home.

Principal secretary (health) Jayanti Ravi said in Gandhinagar that a mobile application has been designed for the purpose in Surat.

A person who has been quarantined at home will have to download the app and upload a selfie. Once the patient does this, his/her movement can be tracked with GPS. In case the person shows symptoms like fever cough, cold or breathlessness, he/she can make an entry in the app and help will reach the patient.

Jayanti said that based on its success, the app will be made available in Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases in Gujarat has touched 47 with three more people testing positive in Rajkot.

Jayanti said two men and one woman tested positive. Among these, one has travel history to China in January.

The health department claimed that so far, survey of three crore people in Gujarat has been completed either personally or on phone.
