The much-anticipated trailer of the upcoming Malayalam film Patriot, starring the Big Ms, has been released. Revolving around a controversial spy software allegedly used against civilians, the film promises a gripping mix of high-octane action and intense drama.
The trailer opens with Nayanthara’s character urging a young girl to speak about her ordeal on camera. In the following scene, Revathy, appearing to play a former minister, questions an official about how a software authorised during her tenure ended up being used in a civilian case.
The scene then shifts to a conference where Fahadh Faasil introduces a new product from his company, Shakti Solutions, called Samaj Seva - The Social Evaluator.
Soon after, Mammootty’s character, Dr Daniel James, is introduced as a whistleblower who identifies himself as a “dissident.” The trailer hints at widespread digital surveillance, suggesting that civilian smartphones and laptops may have been compromised.
The makers then introduce us to Kunchacko Boban's character, who says he was responsible for the program Periscope before it was handed over to Shakti Solutions, warning that such software could be dangerously misused once it enters the private sector.
We are then shown a young girl who dances in front of a "switched off laptop" while the camera zooms in on its camera. "The police are saying she sent something from her laptop she was not supposed to," the girl's mother tells Darshana's character.
The focus returns to Dr Daniel James, who is now under a lookout notice and attempts to evade authorities at an airport in a foreign country. Meanwhile, Fahadh’s character is seen investigating Daniel’s actions at a summit and trying to uncover his contacts. Nayanthara tells another character that nothing will happen to the Daniel she knows.
Fahadh suspects that someone is helping Dr Daniel. This leads to the introduction of Mohanlal’s character, who has a military background. He reflects on his long-standing friendship with Daniel, noting that although Daniel has never asked him for help, “When trouble strikes, a soldier helps without being asked.”
What follows is high-octane action, gunshots and car chase as Kunchacko Boban's character joins the Big Ms on road.
One intriguing Easter egg in the trailer features Fahadh Faasil shouting, “Dad, stop.” While the identity of his father remains unclear, it would be a wild guess to assume that it is Mohanlal.
The trailer concludes with a man asking Mammootty's character whether he is a terrorist or a police officer. His reply is simple and powerful: “Patriot!”
