Racing against time to contain COVID-19, Gujarat government has ordered 156 ventilators and set up exclusive facilities to admit people who test positive for coronavirus.

Principal secretary (health) Jayanti Ravi said in Gandhinagar on Thursday that the state government has ordered 156 ventilators and there is a possibility that ventilators can be manufactured in Gujarat. A prototype is being made, she added.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Gujarat stands at 44 and there have been three deaths so far.

Jayanti said COVID-19 patients will now be admitted in specially set up hospitals. In Ahmedabad, there is a facility with 1,200 beds, in Surat 500 beds and in Vadodara and Rajkot 250 beds each.

She said over two crore people have been covered under house to house survey and out of which the health teams have found that 30,000 have had a travel history in India and abroad. The teams are following up with them and keeping an eye on their health.

Out of the over 20,000 quarantine cases in the state, 19,500 are under home quarantine, the state government said.

She requested the citizens not to pay heed to rumors as the state government was giving updates of the cases twice in a day.
