YSR Congress Party MP Kuruva Gorantla Madhav chose an unconventional way to protest the tasteless remarks on policemen made by former TDP MP J.C. Diwakar Reddy. On Friday, the MP from Anantapur district's Hindupur constituency took the boots of a policeman and kissed it to make his point.

Reddy reportedly said that he will “make police lick our boots” after the Telugu Desam Party returns to power in Andhra Pradesh. “The police force is dancing to the tunes of YSRC functionaries even at the village level. Mark my words, if TDP comes back to power, we will bring such police who will lick our boots,” Reddy had said.

Madhav, a former police officer himself, sought an apology from Reddy, asking him to not make such offensive remarks against the police who work day and night to maintain the integrity of the country. During his mark of protest, Madhav even went on to say that if the party high command permitted him, he would resign as MP and rejoin the police department.

The Anantapur District Police Officers' Association has also demanded an unconditional apology from Reddy for his remark.

Users of social media, however, dubbed the YSRCP MP's action as “melodramatic” and a “gimmick”. On Twitter, the video of Madhav kissing the boots had some people saying that his behaviour was attention-seeking and some saying that it was the result of watching too many Telugu movies.
