Former JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar was denied permission to deliver a lecture at Gulbarga University campus on Tuesday.

According to media reports, Kumar was expected to speak on the 'Role of Youths on Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s Perspective of Modern India’. The event, that was scheduled to take place on Tuesday morning, was organised by the Research Scholars Association and Post Graduation Association of Gulbarga University at Dr. Ambedkar Bhavan, reports The New Indian Express.

Parimala Ambekar, acting vice-chancellor of the university, reportedly said the lecture was cancelled following the oral instructions from the state government. The government said law and order situation would go out of control if Kumar was allowed to deliver lecture at the campus.

The former JNU leader's entry into the campus too was restricted.

Deccan Herald reported that activists of a pro-Hindu forum had demanded that the lecture be cancelled even as a section of students were adamant on holding the programme. Following this, a syndicate meeting was convened by the university authorities and Kumar was granted permission to speak on condition that he would not make any provocative statements and would confine his speech to the area of research.

However, in the wake of the government orders, the former JNU leader was denied permission to speak.

Reacting to the development, Kumar slammed the state government and the university authorities. “If the government and university consider me an anti-national, why they have not arrested me,” The New Indian Express quoted him as saying.
