A day after Congress MLA Aditi Singh defied her party and participated in a special session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, she was provided with Y-category security by the Yogi Adityanath government.
Aditi, who represents Rae Bareli Sadar, had earlier requested security cover following an attack on her in the constituency and had even met the chief minister in this regard.
The MLA had attended the special 36-hour session convened on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The opposition parties, including Samajwadi Party, BSP, Congress and SBSJ, boycotted the proceedings, claiming the state government was just out to set a record.
After attending the session, Aditi said that she came to the house and participated in discussions as she felt that it was an appropriate thing to do.
“Whenever discussions on development take place, we should think beyond the party line,” she said on Wednesday.
The young MLA had deviated from the party line earlier, too, when she openly supported the Narendra Modi government's decision to abrogate provisions of Article 370 and bifurcate the state into two Union territories.
