Madhya Pradesh minister Sajjan Singh Verma courted controversy on Monday after he opined that the mentality of the BJP leaders is similar to that of dogs. Verma's comment came after the opposition party mocked the Kamal Nath government's decision to transfer 46 police dogs along with their handlers across the state.

As per the government order, handlers of tracker, sniffer and narco dogs from 23 battalion dog squad have been given new postings in different districts. The order evoked sharp criticism from the BJP with party vice president Vijesh Lunawat tweeting: “The great Kamal Nath government did not even spare dogs from the transfer business.”

Reacting to the opposition criticism, Verma said: “Their mentality is similar to that of dogs. What else they can do?”

Verma's comment elicited sharp response from the saffron party which accused the minister of calling their leaders 'dogs'.

“If Sajjan Singh Verma is calling us dogs, I would like to tell him that 'yes, we are dogs'. We are faithful dogs of the people of Madhya Pradesh and we will keep raising our voices for our people and our security forces,” BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma was quoted as saying by ANI.

According to reports, the current transfers were necessitated due to the ageing of some dogs serving at the chief minister's residence.
