The Centre on Sunday expressed "deep concern" over  continuing violence in West Bengal even after conclusion of the general elections and issued a stern advisory to the state government.

This is the first advisory issued to any state government after former BJP president Amit Shah took reins as the Union home minister. The latest advisory also comes as the first rap of the BJP government at the Centre to the Mamata Banerjee government on the deteriorating law and order situation .

According to MHA officials, "The unabated violence over the past weeks appears to be a failure on the part of the law enforcement machinery of the state to maintain the rule of law and inspire confidence among people."

"It is strongly advised to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to maintain law and order, peace and public tranquility. It is also requested to take strict action against officials found delinquent in discharge of their duty," the MHA advisory to the West Bengal government said.

Latest reports indicated that four persons were killed on June 8 in post-poll clashes in Bhangipara, Hatgacha in North 24 Parganas district. Earlier also, there have been reports of incidents of violence in which people lost lives in various parts of West Bengal.

The fresh communication by the Shah-led ministry can become the latest flashpoint between the Centre and Mamata Banerjee whose Trinamool Congress is still recovering from the electoral losses. The BJP has made big gains in the state in the parliament elections and is now preparing its strategy for the 2021 assembly polls.
