TN: DMK front dominates in early trends; Karti, Kanimozhi ahead

In the 2014 election, the AIADMK swept the state, winning 37 of the 39 seats

The alliance led by the opposition DMK established a massive lead over the ruling AIADMK's alliance, which includes the BJP, in early trends in the Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu on Thursday morning.

At 9.45am, the DMK alliance, which includes the Congress, CPI(M) and MDMK, was leading in 32 of the 38 seats for which elections were held. The election in Vellore constituency was cancelled following allegations of use of money power. The DMK is leading in 22 seats, the Congress in eight seats and the CPI(M) in two seats.

Prominent DMK candidates who are leading currently include Dayanidhi Maran (Chennai Central), A. Raja (Nilgiris), T.R. Baalu (Sriperumbdur) and Kanimozhi (Thoothukudi). Kanimozhi is facing state BJP president Tamilasai Soundararajan. Karti Chidambaram, son of Congress leader P. Chidambaram, was leading in Sivaganga.
