Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamilisai Soundarajan strongly feels that PM Narendra Modi should be given a Nobel Prize. She even went ahead and "nominated" the prime minister for launching the world's largest healthcare scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana or 'Ayushman Bharat'. Her husband, Dr. P Soundarajan, head of department and senior consultant in nephrology at a private university in the state, also nominated Modi for the award. Tamilisai also urged people to join her in nominating the PM for the award.

On the prime minister's birthday earlier this month, Tamilisai had distributed gold rings to children born on the same day this year.

According to Tamilisai, PM Modi's Ayushman Bharat scheme will transform the lives of millions of people especially the underprivileged and vulnerable. She also said that the leading cause of poverty in India is healthcare expenditure for tertiary and secondary care. She urged health practitioners to utilise the scheme.

"The last date for nomination for Nobel Peace Prize 2019 is January 31, 2019. The nomination processes start in September each year. University Professors and Members of Parliament among others can also nominate our Prime Minister Modi," release from the state BJP chief's office said.
