The 39-year-old Indian Navy yachtsman was injured during the 30,000-mile solo circumnavigation of race. The officer had been stranded in the Indian Ocean near Australia since Friday after a deadly storm hit his boat. Tomy's vessel was dismasted in extremely rough weather and sea conditions, with wind speeds of 130 kmph. He was in third position in the race and has sailed over 10,500 nautical miles in the last 84 days, since the race started on July 1.
Earlier today, a spokesman had said "He will be picked up by French vessel Osiris shortly... Weather creating impediments." The Navy had also informed that the injured sailor's latest update to race organisers suggested that he was safe, but sick. He is reportedly drawing energy from sipping lots of iced tea.
Tomy created history in 2013 when he became the first Indian to circumnavigate the globe.
