Retired judge Karnan denies that he was crying in jail

Retired justice C S Karnan disapproved the statement of a man, a co-prisoner in Kolkata's Presidency jail, who said that he had seen the judge often crying in the jail.

A Ghosh, who was also in judicial custody, like Karnan but not in a contempt case, told THE WEEK, "Inside the jail he (Karnan) was treated   as an extreme VIP and his security was tight. But when he was walking on the ground inside the jail I often saw him crying."

Karnan was the first sitting judge of India who was imprisoned by the Supreme Court of India last year for hammering Supreme Court judges despite warning.
THE WEEK carried an article on Karnan's judicial move and life inside the prison in its most recent issue. Since he left the jail, he spoke exclusively to the magazine and renewed his war against a section of Indian judiciary whom he called as corrupt.

Reading the article, Karnan called up the THE WEEK and said, "It was a nice article except the fact that someone quoted as saying that I was crying inside the jail.  How can I cry? I took on the mighty judges of the Supreme Court and would not spare them in the coming months as well. It was just not possible for me to cry inside the jail because I am a braveheart. I enjoyed every bit of my life in the jail."

Calling himself a follower of Napoleon Bonaparte, the military leader famous for French Revolution, Karnan said like Napoleon he would like to keep fighting and win his fight in the end.

"Napoleon was my hero my idol. I followed his vision in life. I lived life like he lived. I am no less than a revolutionary. Can such a man crumble and bow down to knees?" Karnan asked.

He said, forget about crying, he was "laughing at the fate of the judge" who sent him to jail to teach him a lesson.

"Don't think I am finished. I have taken their cases internationally and more and more blows are waiting for the corrupt judges in the country," said Karnan.

The former judge of Madras and Calcutta High Court, Karnan is presently traveling across the country understanding the mood of the people about his newly floated political party. He is also meeting prominent Dalit leaders of India.

Apart from Napoleon, Karnan was also a fan of Narendra Modi, when the latter was the chief minister of Gujarat.

"Being a chief minister he was remarkable. But he is not a favourite after I saw him being the prime minister of India," the former judge said.
